The Cary town council has chosen a new town clerk candidate to succeed Sue Rowland, who is retiring after 22 years with the town and more than 30 years in public service.

The town has offered the position to Sherry Scoggins, who currently serves as town clerk for Clayton. Scoggins, 47, will begin her new duties in Cary on July 28.
